Ellen Wasylina was privileged and honored to be a keynote speaker at the fourth annual ESG & Friends annual Forum in snowy Sofia , Bulgaria .

The title of her keynote speech was “Inspiring Sustainable Leaders” . Here is the first part :

”This is the new Cold War, or an Energy or Technology war that is literally heating up between countries that have invested in R & D , the research necessary to foresee and prepare for a warming world, and those countries which have not.

In this speech, I would like to invite , to challenge you , even inspire you to become the new generation of leaders we need , who can successfully adapt, transform their vision, their mission, their industries , their companies to deliver value to their customers , all the while reducing their carbon footprint , and reducing their costs. In sum, to apply Economic Social Governance values and principles , which necessarily implies that YOU have invested in R & D , human capital and will have the technology to decarbonise or reduce the carbon emissions in YOUR company, YOUR industry, YOUR country .

The capacity to innovate will be key, as will the ability to attract and obtain investments, or Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Are all the political and economic conditions reunited to receive such investments ?   

However, the cost and benefits do not add up : 

«Based on the latest cost estimates of emission reductions from the UN climate panel, he finds that fully delivering on the 1.5° Paris promise will cost 4.5% of global GDP/year by midcentury, 5.5% by 2100.”

At the end of this very informative and inspiring day, she conducted a workshop on the circular business model, where the participants had the opportunity to present an original idea to solve one of the five regional challenges : plastic, waste, organic food, blue economy , clean mobility .
