The ceremonial plenary session, entitled Human Rights amid New Geopolitical Tensions, War and International Security Challenges, was devoted to the most important challenges currently facing the international human rights protection system. The debate was centered on the consequences of growing geopolitical tensions, the war in Ukraine, the rivalry of the powers, security crises and the changes taking place in the international order. The speakers addressed, among other things, the issue of the future of deterrence in Europe, the importance of human rights in the strategies of the United States and Europe towards China, as well as responsibility for deportations, enforced disappearances and forced adoptions of Ukrainian children as potential war crimes and crimes against humanity. An important element of the session was also a reflection on the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Geneva Convention relating to the Status of Refugees and on the evolutionary interpretation of the European Convention on Human Rights.
